Bio

Starting out in the summer of 2002, Wish for Wings blasted onto the local Brisbane music scene with their brutal blend of ‘mosh and roll’ hardcore antics.  ‘The four of us (Skunk, Winters, Cash, Waggy) hooked up going to shows and surfing I guess’ skunk said.  Like most bands starting out, the guys never intended on even playing shows outside of their home town let alone share the stage with international acts like Madball and Thorwdown as they would discover later on down the track.

The band was recruited by Against front man, Greg Appleby, to help build what is now known as the infamous Northcoast Hardcore Scene.  ‘Greg approached us and other local bands such as From These Wounds, Mourning Tide and A Secret Death with an idea that would see bands from the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Gold Coast uniting to organise shows and help build a tight local hardcore scene’ Winters said.  ‘A lot has to be said about the continued support from the local community, through their support we now have shows on a weekly basis in Brisbane and it has become a must stop town for international touring acts’.

The Northcoast Hardcore scene has now developed into a community, which sports some of the countries biggest hardcore acts.  Bands like Against, The Daylight Curse, Mourning Tide and From These Wounds have all released amazing records and have been well supported by fans around Australia.

Wish for Wings released a 4 track demo EP in mid 2003, which was recorded with Adam Merker at Studio Andeers Debeers and distributed through local record shops.  But it was not the recording which caught the attention of the local punters.  News quickly spread throughout the local community about the wings and their heavy live show and out of control crowds.  Jim Somers of River City Hardcore explains the band early success.  ‘Right from the outset, these guys had a reputation for being one of the heaviest live acts around.  I really think that kids were waiting for a band to come along that didn’t need to be analysed, just simple heavy music that they could  band their heads to’.

It is on the strength of their live show that has seen the guy’s take the stage to support acts including, Madball (USA), Good Riddance (USA), From Autumn to Ashes (USA), Throwdown (USA), Evergreen Terrace (USA), Parkway Drive (AUS), I Killed the Prom Queen (AUS) & Day of Contempt (AUS/USA).

The guys have toured extensively around Australia and are currently in the middle of their ‘Ruining Lives’ tour which sees the band playing shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Byron Bay and Brisbane alongside brother band The Daylight Curse and Adelaide metal heads Through Closed Eyes.  ‘It’s been one hell of a trip that’s for sure’ Skunk said.  ‘One of the guys was kidnapped, Aido hasn’t slept in 3 days, our van is cursed, BJ hasn’t stopped throwing up and Morgsy’s hair just keeps getting longer’

A recent update to the wings line up seems to have done the band a world of good. ‘We’ve managed to snag Andy Junk from the Daylight Curse to play drums full time, he is a fucking machine and Aido also from The Daylight Curse is filling in on the bass.   He has some sort of under cut mullet hair do thing going on at the moment so he fits in around here’ Skunk said.

Their crushing new EP ‘From the Past to the Grave’ drops January next year and will be released through Melbourne based indie label Washed Up Records.  ‘We are really siked on this recording, it seems to have taken for ever but I guess guys walking out mid recording doesn’t speed up the process’  ‘Its turned out better than we expected and we can’t wait to finally get it out’ skunk said.
So what happens next?  ‘Once the cd comes out we just want to tour around the place. Hopefully we can visit a few regional spots that we haven’t been to along the way’ Wish for Wings will be hitting the pit all over Oz in the new year…check it
